Saul Cathcart b. 1978
Saul paints abstracted landscapes that sit somewhere between the intuitive and intentional. He’s been working plein air out in the landscape for over 20 years, capturing the unique atmospheric wildness of the Cornish coastline he loves to spend time in.
Saul is not interested in painting solely what’s in front of him but seeks to capture something else, always emotive yet often indescribable.
‘In the moment I try to listen to what my hand and heart want to do.’
Whether he’s in the studio building up layers of abstraction or out on a windy headland, the landscape he lives and breathes seems to come through in every mark he makes.
He completed an art foundation course in 98 at Falmouth School of Art and went on to study Fine Art Sculpture at Winchester School of Art graduating in 2001. Since then he has continued to exhibit regularly in numerous Cornish galleries and across the UK, as well as securing multiple commissions and artist residences.
